[IUG] Serials/routing label print templates

I am trying to set up a print template for our serials and running into 
some issues (no pun intended).

Am I correct in assuming that the print template for serials is only for 
Routing Labels? When we print now, we can print both labels for the 
issue (with title, location, received date, issue date) and also a 
separate routing label. My understanding is that these two labels have 
morphed into a single routing print template.

With that in mind, we do not want to print 8.5 x 11 sheets as the 
provided templates allow. We want to continue to use call and pocket 
label stock.

How do I:
- get the routing list to continue onto a second label? or, can the list 
flow to a side-by-side column?
- shorten the date for CoverDate (use month abbreviations instead of 
full month name)?

Anyone have a template that works for you that is in the call/pocket format?
