Anyone using EDI invoicing needs to remember that the RDATE will be the day
the invoice is loaded into the system, which may be before the item is
physically received.

Good idea. Can I also use the date that the item record is created? That
usually occurs after the catalog date in our shop.
Thanks
Connie

Since I had a few inquiries for how to do this, I thought I would try to
recreate how I finally ended up doing our cataloging turnaround time study.

The suggestions that I received primarily had to do with the manual
process of writing dates on a slip of paper as the book moved through
the department. Since I am only concerned with the number of days
between the day an item is received in acquisitions and the day it is
cataloged, I figured I could use the order RDATE and the bib CAT DATE as
my basis.

I started with creating a list of everything with a bib CAT DATE between
the first of the month and the last day of the month. I exported the bib
245 |a title, order RDATE, and bib CAT DATE and opened the file in Excel.

If there are multiple order records attached, you will need to eyeball
and tidy up the columns so that you only have two dates for each title.

Once that is done, you can insert an Excel function =DAYS360(B2,C2) into
the appropriate cell to calculate the number of days between the first
date and the second date. With those results, I then calculated the
maximum number of days, minimum number of days, and the average number
of days for the month.

No little slips of paper to chase down! Let the system work its magic.
