Major Duties


Under general supervision, the Cataloging and Database Maintenance Supervisor oversees the Cataloging and Database Maintenance sections; this includes training, direct supervision, and workflow coordination of Library staff involved in all aspects of cataloging activities and database maintenance. Oversees daily operations of library units and supports the units budgetary function. Performs adaptive cataloging of problematic and complex materials, and original cataloging as needed. Revises original cataloging records produced by the unit. Ensures local and vendor authority control workflows. Handles loading of MARC record files from publishers and vendors into Millennium. Uses MarcEdit software to manipulate record batches. Uses ContentDM to perform cataloging of digital items, and is responsible for approving staff entries within ContentDM. Provides both initial and continuous training to staff in the unit. Acts as the OCLC liaison for the library, which includes managing OCLC software and documentation. Organizes and prioritizes cataloging and maintenance tasks, as well as workflow in the unit. Works closely with the Cataloging Coordinator and other supervisors in the Technical Services Department to identify problems, develop procedures and supervise their implementation. Keeps abreast with emerging cataloging standards, such as FRBR principles and RDA. Works on special projects, and performs other duties as assigned.


Qualifications


Equivalent to five years of full-time Library Assistant experience and a High School or equivalent certification; OR Two years/60 units of college or university may be substituted for one year of full-time, Library Assistant experience; OR four years/120 units of college or university may be substituted for two years of full-time, Library Assistant experience. Bachelor's degree preferred. Knowledge, Specialized Skills, and Abilities: Comprehensive knowledge of the AACR2, LCSH, LC classification scheme, the library's collection and catalog; MARC format and familiarity with other metadata schemes, such as Dublin Core. Extensive experience with cataloging materials in all formats. Familiarity with the RDA standard. Knowledge of computer applications in the library, such as Innovative Interfaces library integrated system, OCLC Connexion and ContentDM software, Microsoft Word and Excel. Knowledge and understanding of record batchloading processes and electronic data interchange; library accounting and budget . Strong supervisory experience. Knowledge of the activities, policies, and procedures of the area to which the position is assigned; the way in which that area interacts with the other parts of the library and the library interacts with the university. Ability to: coordinate administrative aspects of a particular library function; implement policy and procedures; establish work procedures, prioritize tasks, and modify procedures in the light of experience; resolve problems and perform duties even in situations in which policy is general and guidelines are inadequate; apply independent judgment within the framework of established library policies; demonstrate initiative and resourcefulness in resolving problems. Work under pressure effectively in a busy environment with multiple concurrent demands; work both as a part of a team, and independently as needed.

Salary is commensurate with knowledge, skills, and experience. The university offers an excellent benefit package.

Anticipated hiring range: $3524-$4700 dependent upon qualifications and experience.
