Re: [IUG] Experience with Hosted Millennium?

Sunnyvale moved to a hosted server for both our Millennium and Encore servers in June. Although we had numerous planning meetings, the transition was not smooth and we experienced a multitude of problems. Of course, we expected some issues and Innovative was very good and solved some. My recommendation would be to be sure to have a project manager-one person that could handle issues and coordinate their resolution. Also, make sure you have enough memory and disc space.

We did have multiple ISP issues in June, resulting in no access to our Millennium systems, which Innovative did solve. Downtime ranged from 5 minutes to 45 minutes, plus the time to get self checks and everyone back up and logged on.
Hotmail blocked all mail/notices coming from our new server. This was resolved.
Slow response time in the Circulation and Cataloging modules at times. This cannot be replicated or seen by Innovative.
Unique to Sunnyvale was the inability of self checks and staff to log on successfully on the first attempt. We received various, random jar error messages (Could not find jxl-2.6.jar, etc.). We were successful on the 2nd or 3rd attempt. Although we could replicate it in house, Innovative was not able to see this problem remotely. Everyone here and at Innovative worked diligently, but could not resolve the issue. However, two months after the migration, it mysteriously stopped. I'm sure you won't have this problem, but it was significant to us.

Hello, everyone -

We're discussing a possible migration from Stand-alone to Hosted Millennium. We're a turnkey site. If you've moved in that direction and would care to share your experience, please reply. We're particularly interested in service availability and reliability issues, but any other experience you have to share would be valuable.

Thanks very much,
