Apostrophes are classed as punctuation, rather than spelling, which is why the keyword synonyms list won't help you. Some punctuation is indexed as a space (periods, for example) and other punctuation doesn't index at all (apostrophes). How users are supposed to know the difference, I've never understood. Subject: [IUG] Puzzled about apostrophes
Greetings.
In our system, searching "lippincott's" fails; one must search
"lippincotts" (no apostrophe) in our modules. So, I thought, let's just
make "lippincotts" and "lippincott's" equivalent words. After much
searching, I found the place in the Telnet access which allows one to do
this, but .... the system refuses an entry of "lippincott's", that is, you
cannot enter "lippincott's" with the apostrophe, only "lippincotts"
without. A circumstance which prevents one, obviously, from making the two
spellings equivalent.
I have no idea how to look this up in the manual. Please, am I missing
something here?
Thank you!
best regards,
