Re: [IUG] Request button suppression displays when you can't request items

We don't use the exact same setting in the REQUEST wwwoption as you do - we use the "denyiflocalavail" option. But our catalog behaves as you expect - when customers are at a library and a local copy is available, no 'request' button appears for that title.

This was an unexpected catalog behavior change for us when we moved to R2009B some time ago. Prior to R2009B, the Request button always showed up, but when a customer tried to place a request while at a branch with a local copy, they got the "Sorry local copy available" message.

After upgrading to R2009B, we finally realized that if there was a "local copy available" at your "branch", the request button no longer appeared.

We found from III when we opened a ticket that this wasn't a bug, but the correct behavior. According to III, there was a bug fix in Release 2009B that changed the behavior. It was always supposed to work like this, but it didn't before the upgrade.

Staff are now used to the behavior and can see it some benefits with this behavior.

Subject: [IUG] Request button suppression displays when you can't request items

We have "denyifavail" in the REQUEST wwwoption so that patrons cannot place a hold on a title if an item is on the shelf.

We have OPAC option "request button suppression" set to "yes". We had expected that this would allow the request button to display only if you could place a request on a title; that it, if there is a copy on the shelf then we don't want the request button to display because you can't place a request. It's not working that way for us, and someone at the help desk says it's not supposed to work like we think. Apparently request button suppression doesn't look at the denyifavail setting in the REQUEST wwwoption.

Are we wrong to think that we can have the request button not display if there is an item on the shelf and therefore a request cannot be placed?
