Re: [IUG] Deleting records from ebook providers.

Hi Bob,
When I load the Safari records, about once a month, I load them using data-exchange and make-sure to click "Use Review files". When the .MRC records have finished loading, I go into create lists and click on the Copy button. Two lists are created, one is records inserted - effectively the new books, and the other is records overlaid - these are the items for deletion. I simply select each of the files into a line that can handle the number of records, and use the Delete records function to delete the overlaid records.
We make two review files as we can then edit the safari records, changing the default material type from book back to ebook, placing a series for Safari ebooks, and changing the Safari videos material type from projected medium to video.
It's quite nice to have them in only one file, don't have to use data-exchange as much.
Of course, having only one file like this only works with records that are either new or for deletion, not ones with changes, such as our EBSCO A-Z journal records have, we then need three separate files.

I need some creative help to work around a new problem. We subscribe to
several ebook providers, notably ebrary and Safari. They offer the MARC
records for their titles and we load them into Millennium after
modifying the 856 field using MarcEdit. However, the collection isn't
static. In addition to new titles being added they also send records
for titles that have been deleted from their service. Safari is
particularly bad about this in that they combine their additions and
deletions in the same file. What is the best way to get the deleted
records out of our Millennium database? I know that some institutions
delete the entire Safari collection and reload the complete holdings
file from scratch each month. But that slows down the system and drives
the System Administrator crazy. As much fun as that is, there has to be
a more efficient method. Any ideas?
