Re: [IUG] Rapid update vs. Global update

We've used Global update to mass add MARC tags for things like proxied
links to resources; or remove and unify text within MARC tags. I've
been told that Rapid update is useful for scanning mass amounts of
barcodes for deletion.

One thing I found is Global update can update fixed field from A to B,
if A all has the same information. For example, patron exp date, if you
want to change all different exp dates to one date, Rapid Update would
be easier.

What are the main differences between Rapid update and Global update?
Which types of tasks are better to do in one or the other?

I know that in Global update you can actually view the data that exists
before you make any changes. But other than that, what reasons are there
to choose one or the other?

Thanks in advance.
