Yes I'd agree with the jre comment. Asynchronous
javascript works on all the current browsers now
and a great Web interface is possible even on
slightly out of date workstations.

The java client-server thing is a headache because of
firewalls, lack of encryption and the need to install the
Millennium package into a read-write directory in an area of
the PC that normally would be locked down in a
business environment. IT managers don't like any of this
and the library has to argue with them about it in
cases where IT is under a different reporting line.
