My apologies for taking ages to give feedback on this matter. The drivers
from the Epson site worked (or so I think because I'm not even sure which
set we finally used!) but I discovered that the main culprit was the
Parallel-to-USB adapter that we were using (Lo, the printer uses the
parallel interface and the new PC only has USB ports!). Looks like the thing
is not compatible with Win7 for some reason. We ended up buying a PCI
parallel card so we could connect the printer straight to the machine. It
was quite a long journey but I'm glad we finally got there! However, if
anyone knows where I can get Linux drivers (Ubuntu 10 or Fedora 14), I'd
like to try it out on those platforms.
