(These are completely untested suggestions, i'm not a jaspersoft expert, but maybe it will help.)

There are usually two ways images are include in emails, embedded as a mime attachment, or linked to a file on a different mail server. The linked method is usually better since you don't need to transmit the image info in each email you send out. So you should upload all the images you want to use in your email to a publicly accessible web server, and in Ireport you should add an image by giving the url to the image object, image expression.

If you look at the source of the email that it send right now, look for the img tag, and see what the src is pointing to. if it is just the filename, then using a url in the image expression might work.

Hello!
I am working on a template for a hold pickup notice. Nothing flashy,
really. I have the library's logo in the template. The image appears in
the preview and is successfully included in the printed document. In the
email the image does not show up and displays as a box with a red x in the
center, much the way a web page would when the image can't be found. We
are not seeing any sort of restrictions that would cause this in our mail
server or in the email client. Any thoughts you might have about why would
be appreciated!
Thanks
