[IUG] searching by record number
[Date Prev][Date Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next][Date Index][Thread Index]
It seems like something I've "always known" : when you're searching by a record number (for ex. patron record), you put an "a" at the end to account for the check digit.
One of our circ staff was trying to search by patron record and said the computer kept saying she didn't have enough digits. I told her to put "a" at the end. She said "we never had to do that where I worked before" (yes, she used III there)
So I was trying to find it in a manual or training document or something, so I could prove to myself that it's not just some rule I came up with - but am not finding anything.
Is this usual behavior? or is our III system somehow unusual? If I could just see somewhere "to search by patron record number, enter the number, then put the letter a at the end", I'd feel less like I'm trying to make difficult for this new staff person (which is the impression I get, every time she asks me a question!)
Thanks!
