[IUG] troubleshooting or post-holiday entertainment?

I wonder if anyone wants to take a shot at explaining this keyword searching/scoping behavior before I send it to Innovative. This came up as an anomaly in a "treasure hunt" designed for our students.

Go to our catalog, http://kentlink.kent.edu and perform a basic keyword search with the single term "millionth" using the default scope (Entire Collection). The 22nd record, for Leaves of Grass, is the object of the treasure hunt. (everything works)

Now change the scope to Special Collections and repeat the search. Only 4 records, but NOT including the desired one even though the bib and item locations should put it in the Special Collections scope. (something is not working!)

Now add the term "volume" to the search ("millionth volume", not quoted) and leave the scope at Special Collections. Even though theoretically you are narrowing the search, you now get 5 records, the extra one (the 4th) being the one we wanted in the first place. (scoping is working, but keyword??)

Any ideas?

TIA,
Mike
