A grateful thanks to all who responded to my frantic e-mail about the Millennium start-up script not running. I learned only about 1:30 a.m. this morning UAE time from the head of the University's IT Department (UITS) that the University changed its IP address late Thursday afternoon. Because of a misunderstanding by UITS that we are a branch of the main library, it assumed that its notification to the main library of the change would be passed onto the us at the NML, which did not happen.
UITS now understands that the NML also has to be notified of such a change. However, for some reason beyond my understanding, UITS cannot yet release the new IP address, which means that the NML cannot yet advise its e-resources providers of the change. So, we are currently unable to access all IP-authenticated resources.
And because I am not authorized to contact the Innovative Help Desk, and there is no one available at the main library who is authorized to contact Innovative until mid-September, I do not know before then how Innovative will learn of the new address once it is released.
Enough of my useless venting. Again, a very heartfelt thank-you to all those who responded.

The OPAC is operating. My personal computers do not have firewalls, and have never had any trouble accessing the system before. In fact, I did some catalog clean-up at home last Monday night.
I was able, after some pathetic begging on my part, to speak to an Innovative support rep in California, who also cannot access our system and who believes that the problem is a server issue at the UAEU end; so unless I can raise someone by e-mail, the system will still be down when the libraries reopen Sunday morning. (It is the UAEU weekend now, and there is no weekend IT support provided for any system, Millennium or otherwise, over the weekends.)
Thanks very much to all who responded to my cry-in-the-wilderness for help.

HI Mary
Is your Millennium server running ?
When you click on the Millennium icon on your desk top it will try to run a session on your Millennium server
If the server is down or if there is a network problem between the pcs and the Millennium server then you will not be able to connect to it
I am assuming nothing has changed on your pcs - no one has changed any settings - or has anyone installed a firewall at your site - Millennium needs to be accessed on high ports - if any one has blocked these high ports - and not bothered to tell you - the client will not be able to connect to the server
Is your webpac runningo k ?
Hope this helps

Subject: [IUG] Millennium start-up script won't run
I hope someone on this list who can help us, because from now until mid September there is no one in the University's library system who is authorized to contact Millennium support or to deal with any kind of Millennium problems.
Late yesterday afternoon UAE time, the Millennium start-up script stopped running, and we are unable to activate any module. When we click on the Innovative Millennium icon to start the script, the black screen opens, but the script does not run. After about ten seconds the phrase "Press any key to exit . . ." appears, but nothing else.
The inability to start Millennium is happening on all the Library's on-campus computers and on my laptops when trying to test the access from my home. The campus computers run on XP, and one of my laptops runs on Vista and the other on Windows 7.
Any ideas on what is happening and what needs to be done to get the start-up script to run?
Desperate in the desert
