[IUG] i-types and locations

I recently started at a library that uses the Innovative system and it is
new to me. I am trying to understand the roles of i-types and locations, and
how to use them consistently. Conceptually, what's the best way to think
of what function each of them serves?

For instance, I know that loan periods and so forth are determined when an
item is checked out based on the patron type, the i-type and the location.
I get the patron part, but how do i-types and locations function in the
equation?

Also, I see a lot more types and locations here compared to what I've seen
before. For other Innovative libraries, how many i-types and locations do
you have?
