I'm hoping someone who is using SciFinder Scholar web version with WAM might
be able to help me with this strange problem.
We have been using SFS via WAM for about 18 months and had no problems. But
for the last month or two we have been unable to get the Structure drawing
tool to work in Firefox. When selected it just hangs. However, it does
work in Internet Explorer, and it works in both browsers when I remove the
WAM proxy.
What I can't understand is: if it is a WAM problem, why does it still work
in IE? And if it is a browser problem why does it work in Firefox via the
direct link?
We don't use the Web version of SFS, but in answer to the questions
in the last paragraph, I think that once you throw plugins into the
mix (isn't the drawing tool a Java plugin?), things can get all
messy. FWIW, we have a call open (c1224022) because Literature
Online mp3s won't play with the combination of Firefox, WAM, and
Quicktime. FF/WAM and Windows Media Player is fine, as is IE/WAM and
Quicktime and FF/Quicktime without WAM -- go figure.
But if you haven't already done so, I'd try making sure the chemists
have an up to date version of Java, and if that doesn't do it, you
can fiddle around with versions (old and new) of Firefox and old/new
versions of Java to see if it makes a difference. Unless there's
been a change to your WAM code recently, some combo should work if it used to?
