Re: [IUG] Inventory question

I've been thinking about the same thing.

There may be such a document here, though I'm not aware of it.

Meanwhile, Laura, a simple way to do a sort of inventory without the Inventory Control Module would be:

1. Generate a list of barcodes expected to be on the shelf within a given shelf range.

2. Scan the barcodes on the shelf with a PDA or laptop, and extract to a text file.

3. Compare lists from #1 and #2.

a) Those items from list #1 that don't appear in #2 would be assumed to be missing or misshelved.

b) Those items in list #2 that are not in list #1 could probably just be checked in to be fixed (the assumption being that those items had never been checked back in; or had been marked as missing at some point).

The Technical Services staff at University of Puget Sound have used the "Find Duplicate" and "Find Unmatched" queries in an MS Access database to do an inventory. If you contact them, they may be able to share their documentation.
