Yes, a link can be used. Innovative made it possible for us:
http://mlib.langara.bc.ca/screens/libinfo_01.html
At the moment we have both text and hyperlink but may resort to link
only in the long term.

However they add additional lines for Google map (We don't have floorplan). I don't know why the call the link "Google Map", I did not pay much attention to it. I need to ask them to change it and also remove the link for phone and instead if they can add the link of library website to the name of the library that would be nice.

Hi everyone,
I am interested in finding out if your library uses Google Book Search API.
If you are an Innovative Library using Google Book Search API:
- Does it work with Innovative's OPAC, Encore, or a different type of OPAC? In order for it to work, did you migrate to Encore?
- How much does it cost?
- How much staff time would it take to maintain this service?
- How long does it take to get this service up and running?
Thanks,
Tracy

We upgraded to 2009B last Thursday. Today I learned that the Music Library, which uses Macs, is not able to open the client. They have reinstalled Millennium, but no joy. Any Mac users out there willing/able to help us?
Here is the message I received from the Music Librarian:
First, my office's Mac: it runs on Mac OS X 10.5.8. It is 64-bit,
Intel-based (Core 2 Duo). And it's running the latest Java update
(Java for Mac OS x 10.5 Update 7). What I'm unsure about is: does
Update 1 need to be installed specifically, or does update 7 supercede
it? For some reason, I was unable to access Update 1. (Here is the
link: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL70)
In any event, my computer seems to exceed all of the requirements.
But Millennium still does *not* open.
(Also, big problem: the Macs at our circulation desk are not even
intel-based. They are Power PC.) So, basically, there is no
Millennium here, and I am freaking out!

Greetings,
We recently went from being one college (with multiple campuses) to being three distinct colleges. The domain name that was used for the OPAC (the OPAC was a sub-domain on it) in the past will now be the domain name for one of the colleges, but the other two will now have distinct domain names as well. So my question is, does any other III and Millennium library and/or consortium have a situation where the OPAC might have multiple domain names (reflecting different libraries at different colleges) but only one centralized database? Is there any customization available for each domain name, or is there one standardized interface since they all point to the same database? Any potential problems we should be aware of if we do decide to go this route? Thanks in advance.

We have two domains, library.touro.edu and library.tourolaw.edu, both leading
to one database. All customization is based on scopes (we have 5). We haven't
had any difficulties with this and the URLs are completely interchangeable.

If they've used the milup160.zip file to install Millennium on the Mac, then it might not be using the right version of the JRE on the system.
You can change the order of the JRE versions called by default in Applications -> Utilities -> Java Preferences.app. On the General tab, under Java Applications, arrange the JREs in the right order. In this case, try dragging Java SE 6 to the top. The Millennium app uses the first JRE listed that is 1.5 or greater, but it may need to be using the Java SE 6 for Release 2009B.
If you need to keep the existing default JRE order for some other java applications, you can edit the Info.plist inside the iiirunner.app. There is a line for JVMVersion under the Java key. It should say 1.5+. If you change it to 1.6+, then Millennium will launch with the Java SE 6 (currently 1.6.0_20) regardless of the order in the Java Preferences.
I never use the packaged version of the Millennium environment on the Mac. A benefit of that is that it's possible to make multiple .command shortcuts to launch Millennium with whichever JRE for testing. From the command line, you can invoke particular JRE versions with the appropriate paths:
/System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions/1.6/Commands/java
/System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions/1.5/Commands/java
/System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions/1.4/Commands/java
I've just added aliases for them to my .aliases file so that I can call them as java16, java15, or java14:
alias java16 '/System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions/1.6/Commands/java'
alias java15 '/System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions/1.5/Commands/java'
alias java14 '/System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions/1.4/Commands/java'
Setting up the .command files is pretty straightforward:

No real options there short of installing a PowerPC linux (e.g., Yellow Dog) and then installing the latest 1.6.x JRE for PowerPCs from IBM and then hoping that it actually works, or, running an x86 operating system that has Java 6 in an emulator (e.g., Guest PC, iEmulator, etc.).

All,
I will be replacing my current 'live' opac with what I have been working
on in the staging opac - I have never done this with the entire set of
files before and was wondering if anyone has ever encountered any kinds
of unforeseen glitches with this process. I am obviously backing
EVERYTHING up but was wondering if certain files - like the webpubdef
etc. cause any kinds of difficulties or if I should be able to assume
that the way things function in the staging server is how they will
function in the live server ...
Thanks much!

I never do it that way, but it is the cleanest way
of doing it and it's common practice in the
wider software/systems world. The reason I don't
do it is that usually I'm doing some type of testing
or experimentation on my test opac(s) and I only
want to roll out part of what I'm working on. I don't
see why there would be a problem doing it
the proper way, which is the way you plan to do it.

Melodie,
You may want to check that the staging and live webpub.def and web options
match. Other than that it should go pretty smooth.
Good Luck!

This information is in an HTML table, and while you can exercise some control over the way a table displays using CSS, including making it display not like a table, this particular table does not lend itself to doing so when more than one holdings/checkin record exists. (It might be possible; when I get sec I'll play.)
But if your main interest is in improving the visual connection among the related pieces of information, you can do this pretty easily with CSS, e.g., limit the width of the label column; put some space between the records; un-suppress the horizontal rules that exist between the records; style the labels and the values so they have the same size/weight as other labels/values in the record; etc.

The GBS API (now known as the "Google Book Search Dynamic Links" feature) can work from any Web page where the requisite Javascript can be included (doesn't even need to be an OPAC). So it works from within III's WebPAC; not sure if Encore allows you to add Javascript (since it doesn't allow you to do much else in terms of customization (AFAICT)).
> - How much does it cost?
It's free...for now.
> - How much staff time would it take to maintain this service?
None. Once you set it up, there's nothing more to do.
> - How long does it take to get this service up and running?
Depends on in-house talent, exactly what you want to do with it, etc. But as long as you have someone with basic Javascript skills, the task should not be onerous.
