Clear the hold shelf on Friday, but don't send back the items until Monday. Some patons get the cancellation notice and will come in and get the books. You could rewrite the text of the cancellation notice.

If you are slightly delayed with sending the books back, the cancellation notice will do what you are asking for.

We used to charge the patron $2 for each item not picked up or cancelled, but that wasn't very popular. We don't do that anymore.

Subject: [IUG] Courtesy Hold Pickup Notice

Hi Everyone,

We're looking for ways to encourage patrons to pick up their holds before they expire off the hold shelf. Has anyone come up with an easy way to notify patrons that their holds are about to expire? I asked Innovative if it is possible to generate a courtesy notice that could be sent to the patron a couple of days before the hold expiration date. I was told that this is not possible. I wonder if anyone has developed a workaround for this.

Thanks.

Judy
