Re: [IUG] search widget problems

With a bit of scripting, you can use the advanced keyword search to get pretty good results with searches that aren't available by default.

See: http://www.deschuteslibrary.org/booksandbeyond/books.aspx (also Find Movies and Find Music on the left side)

For us it's useful because we're not limited to one material type/format, and we're able to "limit" to picture books and large print which aren't material types in our system. The "Limit to:" is using a combination of scopes and subjects.

This has come up before and as I recall only Keyword searches can be limited.
(See Bob Duncan's earlier post at: http://innovativeusers.org/list/archives/2008/msg02103.html)

I have created e-book and video keyword search pages (see http://library.ccbcmd.edu) and while
it would be nice to be able to simply have a drop-down menu of search types so folks could do
author or title searches on them, OPAC doesn't support it.

Time for an enhancement request.

I am using a search widget that automatically limits searches to a single
scope, and also to a specific material type. The widget does limit by scope,
but not by material type, although if you click on 'modify search' from the
results page, the correct material type is highlighted. Any
thoughts/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Here is the source for
the widget:
