Re: [IUG] III Server Replacement

Steve,

Did Innovative have any reservations about a virtual server for Red Hat?

We're a software-only site that recently migrated to a stand-alone Linux
machine. However, we are running ILLiad on a virtual server provided by
the College at no cost. If the next Millennium server could be virtual,
that could be a great advantage.

If you are a turnkey site then Innovative will likely provide the server

on a replacement cycle of their choosing.

For software only sites you buy the server. Coordinate with III
regarding the brand and OS. CSDirect has a list of supported hjardware
and OS's.

We recently (October) moved to a virtual server with Red Hat Enterprise
on it. In the changeover we also went to Enterprise backup and changed
the IP address of the server. There were a few surprises. You will need
to work closely with III.

Our previous server was a seven year old Solaris system. The hard drives

were way past the MTBF.

FWIW.
