Re: [IUG] Millennium "last patron" feature

Carol & Kathy -
there is no automated way to purge this information. It is one of my
perennial enhancement requests. The only way to do it is to run a list
and clear the field using rapid update. The criteria I've used are
items that are not checked out with a last update date more than 1 month
old. There are a lot of them, and you can't access the field with
global update, so it takes a really long time to do.

Kathy,

See the bottom of the page -
http://csdirect.iii.com/documentation/circ_explane/enhance_recent_circ_h
ist.html You can have "up to 5" saved. Some libraries I've heard from
have chosen 2.

I don't know about purging the information. I haven't found anything in
the documentation about that.

We are also considering this feature. It was my understanding that you
could not choose how many you retained - it was all 5 or nothing. Is
this not correct? I also need to know if it's possible to delete the
information stored in this file. Currently our practice is to delete
the last patron number from records that have had no activity in 6
months, for patron privacy so the number isn't stored indefinitely.
Does anyone know if there is a way to do something similar with these
stored patron numbers?
Thanks,
Kathy

Quick poll -

1. Do you use the new Release 2009A "last patron" feature? (Retention
of up to five previous patron record numbers that checked in an item.
See http://csdirect.iii.com/documentation/recentcirchis.shtml)

2. If so, how many previous patron record numbers do you retain?

We are currently on Release 2009A and retain only one patron record
number. That has been our default for years. We are considering
increasing that number.

We want to balance the advantages of the previous patron info when we
need it (damaged/incomplete items, especially media) with the
disadvantages of retaining too much patron information.

Thank you in advance.
