I've asked Innovative for clarification on this, but I'm not so sure
that y-tagged fields other than the 856 can't be displayed. I can
make any y-tagged field in our system display merely be creating an
entry for it in webpub.def (with the notable exception of the 856,
which ignores webpub.def). No one here recalls ever arranging to
have anything changed, however, institutional memory says that when
we first set up our system (pre-WebOPAC) we told Innovative what
fields should not display to the public, and these fields were
assigned to the y field group. I'm guessing that the character-based
catalog was so-configured, its settings were carried over to the
first WebOPAC, and those settings were carried over to the first
site-editable system-generated webpub.def file. (I have all these
lines in my live webpub.def that suppress y-tagged fields, but I
didn't create them, and if I alter them, things change.)
It's my understanding that there's no inherent suppression associated
with y-tagged fields in the WebPAC and that accounting for them in
webpub.def will make them display (assuming the field is really
y-tagged). But my understanding could be flawed; when I hear from
III I'll report back.
