The Central Library, part of the Qatar Foundation's Education City,
seeks applicants for the position of:
Electronic Resources Management Librarian
This position is responsible for the day to day management of digital
resources through the use of an Electronic Management System (ERM).
Responsible for ensuring licensing and contractual requirements are met.
Tracks licenses and arranges for renewals. Responsible for cataloguing
and maintaining digital serials records. Responsible for appropriate
display of resources in various library systems and websites.
This position will report to the Associate director for Technical
Services.

Central Library, Education Division
The Central Library will take a leadership role in meeting the ambitious
goals of the Qatar Foundation to become an outstanding academic,
research, public and national library. The Central Library will serve
universities, schools, foundations, research institutes, medical center
and other Education City partners. Set to become Qatar's premier
information resource, the Central Library will offer comprehensive
collections of print and digital materials and cutting edge information
services to enable participating institutions to reach their
educational, social, research, cultural and community goals.
A new building, designed by internationally acclaimed architect Rem
Koolhaas, is scheduled for ground breaking in 2009 and anticipated
opening in 2011. The Central Library senior administration is now
planning its infrastructure and services and seeks applicants for key
positions in public services, technical services, collections and human
resources.
Job Responsibilities:
* Assist with the planning and implementation of an ERM system
* Manage the digital resource product life cycles through
trial, evaluation, purchase and renewal using an ERM
* Manage the set up and ongoing maintenance of the various
vendor knowledge bases and A-Z list
* Manage the set up and ongoing maintenance of the
administrative interfaces for various digital products
* Troubleshoot ERM access problems in coordination with Library
Information Technology staff
* Liaise with vendors regarding ERM access and troubleshooting
issues
* Serve as a resource person to the library regarding digital
resource access and interface issues
* Establish and maintain schedules for regular coverage loads
in the ERM
* Upgrade brief load coverage records to full Marc records
* Catalogue databases and individual journal titles using
resource records and bibliographic records
* Maintain all contact records
* Maintain all license records including scanning and storing
licenses
* Liaise with librarians and LIT staff regarding the display of
digital resources in the LIS
* Maintain usage statistics and provide reports as required
Required Qualifications & Competencies:
- ALA accredited MLS or foreign equivalent advanced degree in
library or information science
- Experience working in a university environment preferred
- Demonstrated experience in the management of digital
resources
- Experience with digital serials management, ERM modules,
commercial knowledge bases and link resolvers
- Knowledge of international cataloguing standards such as
Anglo-American Cataloguing Rules (AACR2R) and RDA, Library of Congress
Subject Headings (LCSH), LCRIs, MARC 21
- Experience with serials cataloguing using CONSER manual and
CONSER Editing Guide
- Ability to plan and manage multiple projects and assignments
concurrently and effectively
- Strong public service commitment to library users
- Demonstrated commitment to risk-taking
- Strong organizational, analytical and communication (oral and
written) skills and ability to work effectively both independently and
with a team
- Ability to work in a rapidly changing environment
- Experience in a multi-cultural environment preferred
- Ability to be flexible, open-minded and comfortable with
changing responsibilities and duties as new and additional needs become
known
