Dean of Academic and E-learning Services
John F. Kennedy University invites nominations
and applications for the position of Dean of
Academic and E-Learning Services. Founded in
1964, JFKU is a private, nonprofit regionally
accredited university serving approximately 1,700
students. The university is located in Pleasant
Hill, CA with locations in Berkeley, Campbell and
Soquel. Undergraduate, graduate, extension and
continuing education in the fields of holistic
studies, law, management, psychology and the
liberal arts are offered. Affiliation with the
National University System is currently pending
approval by the Western Association of School and Colleges.
This newly created position will provide
visionary leadership to a diverse and dedicated
community of professional, teaching and technical
staff, overseeing the operations of 3 libraries,
the Academic Support Center and the Office of
Disability Services. The Dean will also play a
lead role in planning, coordinating, implementing
and supporting the enhancement and expansion of
online learning at JFKU. This exciting enterprise
will require the ability to foster and maintain
collaboration between the university?s schools,
faculty, Office of Information Technology and
e-learning services vendors. In light of the
expected affiliation, the Dean will serve as the
chief liaison between the university and Spectrum
Pacific Learning Company, LLC, an online learning
services provider and co-affiliate of NUS. This
position reports to the University Provost and
sits on the Deans Council, Academic Leadership
Council and University Budget Committee.
The university seeks an energetic, articulate,
creative, technically savvy and experienced
administrator with the following qualifications:
· Master?s or doctoral degree in
library science, educational technology,
instructional development or related field and a
minimum of 5 years progressively responsible
experience in an academic library, office of
learning technology or learning resource center.
· Administrative experience in an
academic setting, including successful track
record of budget management, planning and
supportive, collegial leadership of
professional, instructional and paraprofessional staff
· Demonstrated knowledge of
learning resources, technologies and strategies,
including e-learning platforms and
applications, instructional development,
electronic library resources and services and other emergent issues
· Ability to plan, organize and
coordinate a variety of university-wide programs and services
· Evidence of effective
interpersonal and communication skills in
promoting productive collegial relationships,
consensus building and problem solving
· Understanding of library, writing
center and disability services mission, goals and operations
· Demonstrated knowledge of issues
related to services to special populations, particularly within academe
· Evidence of commitment to
institutional values, including promotion of
student-centered learning, respect for diversity,
and practice of participatory governance
and ethical and collegial leadership
