Re: [IUG] Set-up for Spine Label Printing

[Date Prev][Date Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next][Date Index][Thread Index]
Hi Mark,

I initially thought the same thing about the morpher. I was getting _some_ results without it, but nothing just quite right. I tried with the generic print driver as well as the Zebra designed print driver. In the end, we were under the gun on time, so we bought the morpher and it worked right away.

We're actually not using print templates for this--it does pretty much what we want out of the box.

We have another Zebra printer (TLP 3844-Z) to setup but there's less pushing this. After your email, I've been playing around with it, but again, I can't get Millennium to print to it. It goes through the spool and Windows seems to think it prints but it doesn't. I can print from Word okay, but no dice from Millennium. Any other ideas?

Thanks,

Andy

Kristi/Andrew

-Make sure you choose the correct label size in
the Zebra printer driver as the default setting (on Windows)

-Before starting up Millennium, select your Zebra
as the default local printer

-"Preview" your label in Millennium. If it fails to preview,
then your label will fail to print

-You shouldn't need this "morpher" thing if you're using the
rel 2007 templates. What is supposed to do? Sounds like
a nice little earner ...

Hi Kristi,

We've been fussing with some Zebra printers as well. We came from Horizon just recently.

We had to purchase something that CompuType calls a "morpher," which perhaps you already have. But, it must be configured to work with Innovative. Apparently, the newer morphers can receive software updates, but ours were so old, we had to get new ones entirely (~$400). You might want to get in touch with CompuType to figure out where it stands.

They'll probably ask you to send them a sample printout, but send it to print to file (by changing the port setting in the printer properties). That's how they know how to configure the morpher.

You'll also want to use just the Windows "Generic" printer drivers, not ones specific to the printer (that's where the morpher comes in). When you change drivers, something is programmed into the printer itself, so you need to reset it. You can do this by pressing and holding the single button. I believe to reset, you need to wait for 4 flashes, but again, CompuType would probably be of better assistance with your specific printer.

I worked with someone named Russell at CompuType and his number is 1-800-658-1255 x 2168.

Hope that helps,

Hi:

We are trying to set up a Zebra TLP 3842 Printer to print spine labels one at at time directly from Millennium.  Our vendor tells us that this is possible, but we are not having any luck.  Our system people have turned on the Print Templates feature, but this hasn't seemed to make any difference.

Millennium will print to our regular printer, on a regular sheet of paper, without the templates.  However, though it appears to "think" that it's sending something to the Zebra printer, the printer does not print...

I suspect that there is something that needs to be further configured in Millennium, but I don't really even know what to ask our system people for, at this point.  Our in house tech person (we are in a large consortium) is trying to figure this out, but with no luck so far...

Is anyone else using this printer ?  Any help that you can give would be appreciated.  (Obviously this sort of thing is not my strong point...!)  Feel free to contact me off list...

Thanks, Kristi Bell

Just tried it in character based following your instructions and it worked like a charm! Hooray! (I have to admit that I like character based better
- it seems clearer to me than Milennium. At some point, I'll have to make the switch but for now...)

Yes, this is very easy with Global Update. However, your description of Rapid Update tells me you are trying to do this in the character-based system, where Global Update is not available. You can do this -- but you have to answer 'yes' to the first question "Do you want to key marc fields?" You will then be given the opportunity to type the MARC tag
(037) after you specify the field group tag (y).

I believe Rapid Update only works on fixed-length fields. You would need to use Global Update to operate on any of the MARC fields.

Hello!

I know the answer to this is so simple that I'll be embarrassed when I find it out but here goes:

We are editing a group of records in a review file and would like to delete the 037 field entirely from each record. It seems a perfect fit for the rapid update function. When I go into the Rapid Update function, I choose Bib records to update, No to keying Marc fields, Yes to updating a review file, and Yes to deleting variable length fields. Once I pull up the correct review file, it gives me the "New data;" option. When I type in "y" for MARC field, it almost always jumps immediately to the "delete"

option. This is the message

MARC=<>DELETE<>,

(On only one occasion have I been given the option to type in a MARC field.
And that was when I was double checking my steps for this email but not
before and not after.) Without typing in the specific MARC field, I'm
afraid I'll end up deleting all of them - horrors!

I'm sure this is clear as mud but it's the best I could do! What am I doing wrong?

Thanks in advance!

Joyce

Note that not every WebPAC has multiple levels for dealing with saved records. The first level that some catalogs show (customizable via
viewsaves_web.html) only appears if the REQUEST_MULTI wwwoption is active. AFAIK, if this wwwoption is not active users get just the screen that displays the format and "send list to" areas and "Your List of Saved Records", which is not customizable within the confines of normal WebPAC customizability. (Last clause added for those with creative Javascript skills, although this page's code may be too barebones to do much with.)

Tip: to determine what (if any) customizable "form" a dynamically-generated page is using, view the source code then do a find in the code for "this is" (sans quotes). If the page is customizable and you've customized it, there will be an HTML comment in the code that says "this is customized <screens/filename>".
If
the page is customizable but you have not customized it, it'll say "this is default <screens/filename>". If the page is not customizable, the comment won't exist.

Applying the principle If it ain't broke, don't fix it, we are still using the Okidata Microline 395 that Innovative sold us when we first began using the system. It works just fine.

Now Innovative is telling us that they don't supply PO forms for this printer. Is anyone getting them somewhere else?

Howdy Tyra (et al) -

Millennium Stats works fairly well, but not completely well, for circulation statistics. There are some things that you definitely need to keep in mind.

First, the counts are only where the records still exist. In your example, you are using a review file, so that is moot.

Second, with the fixed field numeric fields, all it does is count the totals for the records that you are evaluating (Review File or Range of Records). In the # Renewals, this is data from the Item Record that shows the # of Times that the items has been renewed on that particular transaction (assuming it is checked out). So this is not a historical count of the total numbers of times that it has been renewed. The same would be true of the #Overdue which documents what notices have been sent.

However, the TOT Renewal will document the total number of times it has been renewed. But this would be for the history of the item record. So unless you reset the values from year to year, it would not be just for the previous year.

Does this help? I am very rust with answering questions on the list (having lost most of my ability TO answer the questions!)

Best - Corey

I have run a report in Millennium Statistics, trying to get circ. stats.
that we don't seem to be able to get any other way.
The report is based on a review file. In the results, we have a column # Renewals. It kind of looks like this may be YTD Renewals, but we're not sure and I cannot find any reference in the Manual of what these columns actually are.

Does anyone know? (Other columns--#Overdue, IUSE3, TotCheckout, TotRenewal, YTD Circ, LYCirc deleted for space).
