Re: [IUG] authority records: machine-derived non-Latin script referenceproject
[Date Prev][Date Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next][Date Index][Thread Index]
Same effect at Colgate. Although the vernacular scripts display, they don't index. So when I used Ctrl-G on the Fraser Arabic heading, I get this:
[cid:image001 dot jpg at 01C91A6A dot 12368BF0]
(hope you can see the screen shot).
It's very odd that most of the See references are displaying right to left, although the Cyrillic example (line 34) displays correctly (left to right).

We are getting weird stuff like this too. Our system does not index the Cyrillic, Arabic, Greek, and Hebrew in these new x-refs. Doesn't cause much of a problem except when there is data in the string like dates in $d that the system does index. We reported this problem to III last week but haven't heard a response yet.
We were having a problem with the authority record for "Homer." It was a Greek x-ref that looks like this "'Ομηρος" but when we import the record into our system, the funny "c" at the end is converted to a "w". Only the "w" in the string indexes so if you search "w" in the author index it will redirect you to "Homer"--Not very desirable
Also, the example you cite has an error in the LC record; the x-ref lacks a hyphen in $d. I corrected this in the LCAF.

IUG,
I've discovered authority records that have cross-references such as
400 1 {945}{929}{954}{930}{929}, {924}{954}{949}{931}
{924}{952}{929}{924},|c{931}{954}{929},|d18541941
Our system has indexed this as author: 18541941. (We're on Release 2007
1.0.)
When I look that up in our catalog, I see this display:
/18541941 / is not used in this library's catalog. * Frazer, James
George, Sir, 1854-1941 * is used instead.
Search for Frazer, James George, Sir, 1854-1941
<http://ladd.bates.edu/search%7ES9/a?Frazer,%20James%20George,%20Sir,%201854-1941>
The 667s say:
16 667 Machine-derived non-Latin script reference project.
17 667 Non-Latin script reference not evaluated.
I found this FAQ online:
http://www.loc.gov/catdir/cpso/nonlatinfaq.html, which includes the
following:
> Q16. What effects will the non-Latin references have on local systems
> and on authority control processing?

> A16. Effects may vary depending on the system. Announcements of the

Has anyone else encountered these? Are they displaying and indexing
properly in your system? Are there local changes that can be made or
does this require a Help Desk call?
Thanks,
