Re: [IUG] Rel.2007 option to open urls in new window? or is this for the next release

FYI on this wwwoption at my site with Release 2007 1.0

When we activated your item level urls with the following the service commitment:
Use this service commitment to request the ability to add a MARC 856 tag, or 'URL', to item records. See Variable-length Fields in Item Records for a description of the field.

We ran into some interesting things with this wwwoption.

If you use the wwwoption as:

DISPLAY_856=z|true
The item level 856 url will display both the |u and the |z from the item record 856.
The link will open in a new window, but the display is very messy.

However, if you set the wwwoption up as:
DISPLAY_856=z|t
Then the item level 856 url will display only the |z message as you'd expect. The link will also open in a new window.

I don't know if others will experience this or not, but I thought it would be a useful heads up. Locally we are still evaluating the benefits and workflows for item level 856's.

Sincerely,
Mark

For a feature that's been asked for for years, you'd think III would
have touted its availability in R2007. Go figure.

See the manual entry for the DISPLAY_856 wwwoption; there's a second
parameter that is used to tell the system to open links in a new
window. Ours looks like this:

DISPLAY_856=z|true
