Re: [IUG] Circulation during backups

Our experience with using circulation whle running backup:

We decided to have extended hours, open until 2 am, during final exam
week.
I forgot that our unattended backup was set to start at 1 am. Circulation
was
too slow because the transactions were not going through. Instead the
patron record
became "busy" and had to be freed up later after backup was completed.

Our solution was easy; we now start backup later (3 am), so that I don't
have to
remember to change the schedule when we have extended hours.

We have talked about a 24 / 7 schedule, and may have to face this issue.
I will
be interested to hear from any who are using Offline Circ. We had a
similar
product with our previous system, and used it when we were down for
hardware
repairs, software upgrades, etc.

Have you thought about using Offline Circ for this? It is a separate
product you'd have to buy if you don't have it already.

Subject: [IUG] Circulation during backups

When we set up our unattended backup routine during training we were
told not to use the system during the backup period. I can only find
reference to "updates to records will not be processed until the backup
is complete and transactions file processing restarts". I find nothing
that says DO NOT use the circulation module. We are open 24 hours
Sunday-Thursday and have stopped circulation activity at 1:00 AM. Now
we would like to be able to circulate all the hours we are open. Is
this possible?

Thanks for your assistance.

Connie
