Hi Michael,
Since we wanted smaller labels than any stock labels our vendor had on hand
we have our labels custom-cut. They are 1" by 1.875". We are getting them
from RACO Industries. We are using a wax/resin ribbon with the thermal
transfer method of printing rather than direct, which I am told means they
will not fade. Since we have only been doing this for 2 months I don't have
a history to verify that.

Hi Kathy,
We're looking at using the Zebra printers also. Which label stock are you
using and are you experiencing any fading? I've used thermal printers
before, but only for labels that are not exposed to bright lights as (at
least the Dymo labels) tend to fade over time.

We are on R2007, using print templates for spine labels with Zebra TLP 2824
printers. These are single labels that print out one at a time, which our
libraries prefer (so the spine label is affixed by the cataloger and sticky
notes with call numbers are eliminated). With the templates we are using we
get 4 lines, 10 characters per line on labels 1" high and 1.87" wide,
printed in landscape mode. This way they wrap around the spine and stay on
better. We're using thermal transfer printing so there is no smearing or
fading. With a 12 pt bold font they show up very nicely. We have 22
libraries using them and they are loving it.
As has already been mentioned, using print templates is optional, and
controlled by login, so you don't need to change any printing practices if
you don't want to.

I've been meaning to post a question about this, also, so I'd appreciate it
if you all would respond to the list. We're trying to move away from the
dot matrix printer, but we carry numbers out to 7 numbers after the decimal
(Dewey). With the Gaylord labels required under Rel. 2006, however, we can
only print labels for numbers that do not exceed 5 numbers after the decimal
point. Our dot matrix printer is slowly dying and label printing has become
quite tedious. I'm hoping Rel. 2007 has enhanced features, as promised.
Thanks,

For those of you who have upgraded to Release 2007, I was wondering
about the printing issue reported on this list earlier this year. Our
system is flooded with Okidata dot-matrix printers, as well as Epson
receipt printers. Laser printers have been pretty much avoided because
of the cost of toner / maintenance. However, back in May, we noticed on
the IUG listserv mention that there are issues with dot-matrix printers
that may prevent them from being usable. Is this true? If so, how have
you overcome this obstacle? I'd really, really like to move to R2007
because supposedly, it will fix several issues with our server, but if
we cannot use our Okidatas, we're up a creek without a paddle. Please
let me know. Thank you!
