Re: [IUG] Looking for information on Patron Self-Registration product

Overall it works well. We average about 1,000 patrons a month using the
online registration. You are welcome to give it a try on our website:

I just got the new form working which is a big improvement. It prevents
patrons from submitting incomplete forms, however, anything can be typed
into the fields and submit it but this rarely happens. The issue I
would like to resolve is being able to format the text to all upper case
letters when it is sent to III. Some patrons are not good typist and
they don't capitalize like they should. Also, if you want your records
to have certain formats, circ staff will need to do the cleanup. Circ
staff have complained about poor information but I think this new form
will improve those issues.

It's a really nice feature as it allows patrons to place requests and
reviews prior to getting their 'real card'.
We do have patrons who complete online registration and the record is
never updated. I'm not sure if it because staff don't look for it
before creating a new one or the patron just never come in for the card.

You will have some patrons who just don't want to do it online.
Although I do know a library that made online registration the only way
you could get a library card.

We are not capturing signatures and I'm looking for 2007 where other
patron's fields (PIN and Alias and home library) can be included on the
form.

Subject: [IUG] Looking for information on Patron Self-Registration
product

I'm interested in hearing about the experiences of libraries who are
using the Patron Self-Registration product. We currently use paper
library card applications but we're thinking about moving to online
registration. We are envisioning patrons filling out and submitting
their information online and then visiting the library to present
identification. Circulation staff would simply verify the information
(rather than having to enter it) and issue a card. We are hoping this
would save staff time and eliminate keeping paper applications on file.

How has it worked out for you? Any particular problems? Was it difficult
to implement? How have your patrons reacted? Do you capture patrons'
signatures digitally or do you not worry about signatures?

Thank you for any information the collective wisdom can provide.
