We are having the same issue at UNC-CH. Once I finally called the help desk, since email exchanges were not working, the person who talked to me said that Innovative wasn't displaying or indexing the sharp since it could not be typed into a record with a keyboard. I pointed out it was now a valid character in MARC8 and appears in the Millennium character map (which I used to globally change the characters that did not appear to import from Connexion or our authority vendor correctly).

The person at the help desk said they could re-index our catalog and use either the pound or the sharp for retrieval. They are still working on how to get the character to display correctly.

You will want to call the help desk to get this resolved. I haven't even started working on the flat issue yet, but have it on my to do list.

Hello,

Before contacting Innovative Help Desk, I'm hoping that someone (maybe in a Music Library?) will have some information on why the following happens. It is most likely an inconsistency that's been around for a long time, but we hadn't noticed.

Some Background info:
We get our bib records from OCLC. We export in MARC 8, not Unicode. Our Millennium database is not Unicode converted yet.
We are on Web Pac Pro for our Public Catalog.
We are on Release 2006 1.3 in Millennium.

-----
In Millennium clients,
In Browse lists:
the Sharp sign - doesn't display the Flat sign - displays as the letter 'b'

In Millennium clients,
at the full Record display level:
the Sharp sign - displays correctly
the Flat sign - displays correctly

In WebPacPro,
In Browse lists:
the Sharp sign - doesn't display the Flat sign - displays as the letter 'b'

In WebPacPro,
at the full Record display level:
the Sharp sign - displays correctly
the Flat sign - displays as the letter 'b'

What various things would we need to look at to troubleshoot and get both the Sharp and Flat signs to display as themselves everywhere?
Or, what would we need to do to get the Sharp sign to display in Browse lists? (Or perhaps display as the # pound sign?)
It seems that the lack of the Sharp sign in the browse displays in the client and in WebPacPro would be misleading -- if you're looking at a list of titles and you see:
...Opus 10 F Minor
...Opus 23 Eb Major
Why would you think that the first entry was for F# (F sharp)?

Any help is much appreciated.
Thanks,
