Eeva,
Thanks for the correction. I didn't get that from reading the manual.

Phil: Good afternoon! Actually, our High Demand Holds report does
indeed pull up titles on order and these can be easily spotted in the
list because they have 0 items attached (you can sort by these). It
does also count items with special status such as missing, withdrawn,
etc. The beauty of it is that you can sort by the column headers AND
you can get all of the highest demand items at the top of the list AND
you can right click to see the records! You can also EXPORT your report
to Excel. We're very pleased with the functionality! Kind regards and
have a SUPER weekend! Eeva

It's great that Innovative has improved purchase alert info by
introducing High Demand Holds. However, I'm not completely happy with
it because, unless I'm mistaken (based on reading the manual and
looking
at the High Demand Holds feature briefly):
1. It doesn't count things that are on order. If I've already ordered
some extra copies to deal with the holds then I don't want to see the
title on the list anymore. Also, the report apparently wouldn't work
at
all for titles for which you haven't received any items (assuming you
don't create item records until you receive physical items); if I've
ordered one copy of a title and there are 100 holds then I want to know
this as soon as possible and not have to wait until the item is
received.
2. It apparently counts all items, even those which cannot fill holds
because they are missing, claimed returned, billed, billed & paid, or
even non-circulating (if you have a mix of circulating and
non-circulating items on a bib). Hopefully you won't have too many of
these items, but they could cause titles to not appear on the report.
There may be other ways of dealing with these issues within the system
-
I don't know. I remember being unsatisfied with what I could get with
the purchase alerts a few years ago so I modified somebody else's perl
script to give me exactly what I wanted, including dealing with the
issues above.

Good afternoon! We're on Rls 2007 and we use a wonderful new feature
in
Millennium called "High-demand holds" to track the purchase alerts
and
to be able to keep an eye on items with large holds lists! We LOVE
it!
Look at the What's New section of the manual (p. 107673) -- it's the
first item listed there with links to how it works! I hope that
helps!
Kind regards, Eev

Could someone give me feedback on how they handle purchase alerts?
Purchase alerts encompasses everything on the list and we are only
really looking at our books. We've also been looking at the view
outstanding holds tab in circ but that is also cumbersome. There
also
isn't a "holds" file for create lists but I think there is an
enhancement in the future regarding this. That might be an easy way
to
limit by location.
Thanks for any help in advance,
Mary
