Hi Donna,
I checked the manual for the "official" word and found on page 105403
the following:
*
If the Fines/Bills: Charge fines for days closed circulation
option is set to "NO," removing a "day closed" date from the Days
Closed table may affect overdue fines. Staff should evaluate when
to remove dates from the Days Closed table based on local billing
and fine cycles.
*
If the Fines/Bills: Charge fines for days closed circulation
option is set to "NO," the system prevents fines for overdue items
from accruing during times when the library is closed
I have always waited to remove a day until our longest possible loan
period (77days) has passed. When an overdue book is returned, the
system goes back and looks at the days closed table to assess the fine.
So . . . if you remove 5/26 now, it will not be available when assessing
fines for currently overdue items. This makes the updating process VERY
cumbersome.
Each year on the enhancements ballot, I vote for the ballot item which
asks for the ability to include the /year/ in the days closed
table--this would make it soooo much easier to maintain the table.
Hope this helps--
Leigh

I have a question about the Days Closed table. We were closed for
Memorial Day and then on Tuesday, I changed the date to next year's
Memorial day date. We had one branch report that fines were being
assessed for Monday. I've never waited before when changing this table.
Can anyone tell me if I change the table for next year's date, does this
affect fines for the date that has already passed? Clear as mud??
Thanks for any thoughts.
