Yes, it works. We use this capability with our scanners when searching in OCLC and in adding ISBNs to bib records.

Hello!
    ISBNs are indexed in INNOPAC.  This leads to the intriguing 
possibility of using the dust jacket scannable ISBNs as barcodes.
    Has anyone out there tried this?
