Steve,
Findlay went through this last fall. To ease the transition, we left the old barcode in the user records and just added the barcode from the new OneCards. This allowed off campus users to use their existing barcode number for remote access to our databases and electronic journals. We'll eventually delete all the old barcodes (we skipped ahead about 75,000 numbers for the new ones).
The new cards were distributed through the university's administrative system (Jenzabar) and the card production company used the barcode production algorithm to print the new barcodes directly on the ID cards (see page # 100353 in the manual for details). We had some glitches when the card company loaded the wrong barcode numbers (NOT those they'd printed on the cards - what a mess!), but everything seems to be working O.K. now.
Feel free to contact me directly if you need more information.
Bob
