GCPL has about 8,000 Overdrive records in our catalog. We're part of a
small Ohio consortia so our process may be a bit different than dealing
directly with Overdrive, but basically we download new records on a
monthly basis, use global update to "WAM" the 856 to a zero minus URL
and process them. Patrons who go to Overdrive via the catalog
authenticate, and are taken to Overdrive where they do the usual things.
You can see an example by searching our catalog for keyword Overdrive or
title "Surf's Up" at https://library.gcpl.lib.oh.us
Frankly most patrons come at Overdrive from our homepage and bookmark
the MOLDI site.
You can see it here:
http://www.greenelibrary.info/Services/Digital-Collections.html
Overdrive also offers an in-library option called the "download"
station. This is basically a custom URL on a computer with Media Player
and Active Sync. Patrons may test their device and the splash screen
offers (mostly) always available titles so while you can use the
download station to place a hold on a title you also get instant
gratification and can download a 4 or 5 part audio book in 30 minutes or
so. Here's what our version of the download station looks like:

Donna, ALIS has a number of libraries using OverDrive quite
successfully. We had to allow the OverDrive servers through our firewall
and allow access for Patron API for validation, which was routine.

OverDrive has been good to work with. We have begun to load bib records
for the OverDrive collection, and that has been fine as well. We have
tweaked the bibs by adding some coding so that I can round them up when
I need to and the patrons can better find them, but that too is
something we do routinely as well.

The organizer of our OverDrive COnsortium is George Trepp. He can be
reached at 516-432-7201....

Best regards,

Subject: [IUG] Millennium and Overdrive

Does anyone use Overdrive? How does it interact with Millennium? Any
tips or tricks you can share? I checked the archives and all I found was
a message from Sept 2007 from someone asking the same question. I didn't
find anything in CSDirect either. I have put this in the Cataloging
Forum (Early Bird session on Tues) for the IUG, so if I don't get any
answers here, hopefully they'll have some answers. Please make note of
