MarcEdit is free editing software developed by Terry Reese from Oregon State
University. I believe you can find earlier references to it in the INNOPAC
List archives. I have not used it for your purpose, but I think you could
use it to do some kind of find and replace.

It can be downloaded at the site

Subject: [IUG] Global edit of marc file

We would like to be able to carry out a global edit on a iii format .marc
file before loading it into our database. The aim is to change a
non-indexed marc tag to an indexed marc tag so the field content can be used
for matching during loading.

How feasible is this and which software would you advise us to use?

Thanks for any help,

Anne Turner
