I'm very interested in knowing more about the "why" regarding adding urls to item records. Are you adding a url to a print item record when you also have the electronic version? Are you also making modifications to the print bibliographic record when you have the electronic version?

If you have only an electronic book which has no physical items or holdings, is the decision to add an item record driven by statistics issues? Or is it driven by OPAC display considerations? Or some other reason?

Are any libraries that have ERM also adding items to ebooks? Or are you adding a holdings record to the ebook record to link it to a resource record?

We haven't created any items for our ebooks at this point, and we don't follow the single record approach for print and electronic monographs (for the most part). We put the url in the bib record and have no attached records. I'd be very interested in hearing from libraries who do use item records or holdings records for their ebooks, if you are willing to share your decisions and practices.

thanks,

Subject: [IUG] URLs in item records

Has anyone setup the ability to add links/urls in your item records? I get that I need to contact III to add the group tag, etc. but what did
you decide upon (assuming you had a choice) as far as public display.

Can you share a link to your catalog so I can take a look?

Thank you.
