Per inventory project - we invariably hit a lockup of the B321 a some
point which requires a hard reset. This even after a successful
inventory scan session; we see the freeze upon the upload. We never see
a definitive tell-tale how or why. We are left with no choice but to
do a hard reset, all data lost; yet subsequent uses all is usually fine.
We always advise upload each time after an inventory scan session
regardless where one is in the project or a range in the stacks.

Subject: Re: [IUG] Inventory Process
We have the inventory module. We inventory part of our collection every
summer. We used a hand held scanner (B321) that III provides. Last
summer we went through 5 scanners. Each one would work for about a
week, then fail to dump the report - each time losing a whole days'
work. It was extremely frustrating - not just because of the failures,
but because III's solution was to throw another B321 at us. I contacted
III sales to make sure that the B321 is what they are currently selling
to new customers. Apparently the help desk does not talk to sales. I
heard from other III customers who had the same issue, and a couple who
did not. I could not find a pattern. Another library said they would
scan thousands of barcodes and have no trouble. We limited ourselves to
about 600 and had problems. I even contacted the manufacturer, and they
could not diagnose a problem. This year, we are doing the inventory by
printing a shelflist. Some people did about 300 books in an hour.
