[IUG] Linked patrons

This is a response to the inquiry about linked patrons from Kate Burlette,
our Director of Circulations Services, who is not on the list. She mentions
an attachment, but since I fear the list will not accept it, I am copying it
below her response.

We use the Linked Patrons feature in Innovative and our customers love it.
At first I was hesitant to promote it since I am concerned about patron
confidentiality. I was also concerned about having to keep track of minors
that were included. I wondered if I was obligated by law to track minors
that reach age 18 in order to notify them of their right to privacy.
Recently, I attended a workshop on legal issues and was told that it is not
a requirement on our part. Attached is the form that we provide for our
customers. Each adult must provide their signature to insure that they
understand that they are waiving their right to privacy within the linked
group. I would like to design a brochure that explains the policy, but just
haven't had time to design one. I hope this is helpful.

All of the above individuals grant permission to the Gail Borden Public
Library District to release information and materials to other family
members upon presentation of proper ID. The Library does not assume the
right or obligation to decide what information should be shared with which
individual. The Library leaves this decision up to each user.

Any individual that is not a minor can void this permission in writing at
anytime.
