We don't offer it as a link anymore but if folks still have telnet
software (we use CRT on campus) with an entry to the catalog on their
computer from the "old days" it works. I haven't disabled the public
password.
Regarding Vista & telnet I recently ran into this when considering if I
could still dial in from home to check the backups during break. Turns
out Vista does have telnet, you just have to turn it on. This has good
instructions
