Does anyone out there have login passwords (NOT initials) that exceed 8
-10 characters in length? The documentation is not clear if there is a
limit in the number of characters in a password, although it does
recommend alpha lowercase and numeric only.
Any information would be GREATLY appreciated!
Top on my list of manual pages that should be deleted immediately (if
not sooner) is page 105042, where it is stated that passwords (a)
have to be at least 8 characters (not true on our system); (b) have
minimum requirements for numbers and letters (also not true on our
system); (c) can be up to eleven characters long although only the
first eight are significant (mostly not true on our system---we can't
enter more than 8 characters when editing or creating a login).
So on our system, new passwords for logins can't exceed 8 characters,
but it's conceivable that greater-than-8-characters passwords that
were created when the information on page 105042 was accurate might
still be usable today. (And since changing login passwords regularly
is a joke under current conditions, it's also conceivable that there
could be long passwords still in use.)
