We do batch printing from Millennium to sheet labels using PrintWizard.
We've been successful at this for over a year.  I have never
investigated labels from Connexion.  One of the beauties of labeling
with PrintWizard is that you can select anywhere on a sheet to start
printing so you can re-use sheets so less waste.  Kerrie

Hello - Pardon the ignorance that is no doubt behind my questions here!
Before getting started, let me say that our ILS is Innovative and we
work in Millennium.

 

We used to print call # labels with a homegrown program that no longer
works with Microsoft 2007 (grrr). Our systems librarian has determined
that it's not worth trying to get that program to work with MS 2007 and
who knows what down the line. We need to go with something that we can
depend on into the future.

 

So, I have been looking at printing from the Connexion client, and I'm
starting to think it's not a good option for us. But I need your help in
ascertaining that. I'm assuming that printing from Connexion would need
to be done separately for each separate login. Yes? We have 2 catalogers
working in Connexion, and we have been using a student to do the label
printing. Am I correct in assuming that each person's login would
require separate maintenance of options, and that printing the labels
would have to be done one login at a time? [Catalogers do not have their
own printers; printing has to be done from one particular computer, to
one particular printer.]

 

Also, it is appearing to me that a fair amount of label editing would
need to be done, e.g. adding volume #'s to the label. Our vol #'s don't
go in the bib record, they go in the local item record, and Connexion
prints from the bib record. Correct? This would appear to be a problem
from the standpoint of having a student do the label printing. 

 

I was really hoping to avoid printing from Millenium, because we want to
batch print on sheets of spine labels only. [At this point, we don't
have the equipment to do continuous feed printing.] As far as I can
tell, one - AND ONLY ONE - type of label is supported by Millennium for
batch printing - Gaylord's SL6-formatted label stock (product # 9002),
which is a set of spine and circulation labels that sells for a rather
pretty penny. We don't need to spend that much money on labels, since we
have no need for circulation labels.

 

If someone out there can help me know if I'm understanding Connexion
label printing correctly, that would be wonderful. Is there a way to
make it work for us? Or is there a way to print from Millennium without
going broke on labels we have no need for? Any other suggestions?
