We see frequent requests on the IUG list for a way to create a review
file from a list of record numbers. I was thinking this morning that it
might be possible to do this using a MarcEdit-like tool (perhaps
MarcEdit itself!) and a custom load table.

First, convert the list of record numbers to a file of pseudo-marc in
your translation program's format. For MarcEdit that would be:

=LDR

=907 \\$a.b10088837

with a blank line between each record. Use MarcEdit or whatever you're
using to convert this into a real MARC file.

Now, using a load table set to overlay on record number, but not insert
any fields, load your MARC file with "use review files" turned on.
After your load just copy the created file as you normally would, and
cello!, I mean voila! You have your review file.

I realize this seems like a lot of work, but once you have created the
load table and a script to convert the list of record numbers into
pseudo MARC it should run pretty smoothly.

I don't know whether this would work with item records, but it should
work fine for bib and patron. Note well that I have never tried this -
I'm just woolgathering and thought I'd share.
