Technical Services Librarian Position

Pella, IA

POSITION: Central College seeks a service-oriented, creative Technical
Services Librarian to join a collaborative environment and facilitate
access to library collections in an outstanding liberal arts college
library. This is a 12-month, tenure-track position at the rank of
Assistant Professor. The Librarian has primary responsibility for
management of an integrated library system shared with the Pella
Public Library and cataloging of all materials. The Librarian will
supervise copy cataloging and materials processing and perform complex
cataloging of monographs, serials, audiovisual materials, electronic
resources and special collections. The Librarian is also responsible
for administration of a proxy server, link resolver, and related
technology.
All librarians share responsibilities for reference, instruction, and
collection maintenance. The position includes some evening and weekend
reference hours.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
ALA accredited MLS/MIS; 1-3 years relevant experience in an academic
or research library; demonstrated ability to apply emerging digital
solutions to meet user needs; relevant experience with integrated
library systems management; excellent interpersonal, communication,
and organizational skills; current knowledge of MARC formats, AACR2R,
LCSH, classification systems, and metadata standards; demonstrated
potential to meet teaching, service and professional development
requirements to achieve tenure and promotion.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience with Innovative Interfaces, OCLC, Serials Solutions, Dewey
Decimal classification, authority control, Web authoring and design,
and database management.

GEISLER LIBRARY: The Library's mission is to provide students with the
information they need to achieve their highest academic potential and
to help them acquire research skills necessary to lifelong learning.
Library staff and services are highly respected, and the library is
well integrated into learning programs as a result. Library faculty
are full partners with their academic colleagues, teaching information
literacy components in subject-oriented sessions, Central's first year
experience course Intersections, its Public History Seminar, and in
credit bearing courses Introduction to the Web and Web Research, and
Research Strategies. The Library's welcoming, well-equipped and
wireless facilities are used heavily by students in all majors and
programs. Its resources include individual and small group study
areas, and a growing collection of 235,000 volumes, 10,600
audio/visual items, 52,000 microforms, subscriptions to 1,000 print
serials and an array of database aggregators with access to 18,000
web-based journals. Library Media Center staff assist faculty and
students in the development of multimedia productions for teaching and
learning. The Archives features unique college and local history
documents related to the early settlement of Pella by the Dutch. All
collections are accessed by a state-of-the-art Innovative Interfaces
Millennium system (a joint system with the Pella Public Library) and
an extensive website. The Library's Writers Reading Series, now in its
21st year, features renowned authors reading from their works. More
