Re: [IUG] scanning item barcodes into a review file (Strouse, Mary)

The method I use is as follows (note: it requires offline circ or
inventory).

Scan the barcodes into a text file

Using a find and replace program (I use NOTETAB from www.notetab.com)
get the barcodes to be of the format n:barcode
n:3087xxxxxxxxxxx
n:3087xxxxxxxxxxx
(they should begin in column 1 and it is easy to change in notetab
using find and replace looking for the carriage return (^P) and replace
that with (^Pn:)

Save the file as circ.dat in the Millenium\offline (offline circ must
be installed)

Open Millenium Offline Circ

Select Upload Circulation and Patron data - it should confirm the number
of barcodes (called circ transactions transferred)

Log onto text based III

Select Circulation then Additional Circualtion Functions then
Process PC Transactions

Select C> COMPARE inventory to shelf list

Select T > TRANSFER file fo barcodes to a Review File

Pick an empty file - Add Name

Select file to transfer ( it should have the date and time you uploaded
it)

It should tell you transfer complete do you want to remove file ( up to
you)

File should now be in a review file.

The advantage is that you can have a person using a laptop not on the
network wand a bunch of barcodes remotely and you can still process
them. Anyway - hope I did not miss any steps.
