[IUG] Checkin record 853/863 pair problems

Hello all,

Has anyone who maintains MARC 21 holdings data for serials checkin records recently experienced unexplained changes on their record tab in the 853/863 pairs?  Most of our records have developed a curious problem that replaces random characters with an "n".  It is generally in the first MARC-tagged entry on the record tab, although I have found instances which deviate from this trend.  Here is an example of an 853 caption where the character after the subfield a has changed from a "v" to an "n":  

Captions   853   3   3   |81|an.|bno.|u8|vc|i(year)|j(month)|k(day)|ww|x01,03

Once this change has occurred, you can replace the "n" with the correct character, but the change will not save.  The next time the record is opened, the "n" will again be in place of the correct character.  This change prevents proper holdings updates as new issues are checked in.  I appreciate any insight with our dilemma.
