Interesting comment Cindy. That whole question of programming is a bit fuzzy in my mind. Most of here are still using the Percon Series20 wands we've had since 1992. Those have to be programmed. The last new barcode scanners we got were Metrologic MS951's (a discontinued model) for the remodeled circ desk five or six years ago. If I recall correctly we didn't have to program those, they worked straight out of the box. I didn't know if it was a Percon thing or maybe just a character based thing where an initial "b" was needed in front of the barcode.

I do know folks don't want a trigger version. Depending on personal preference they either want a hands free scanner they can run the book in front of/under or they want a wand.
