The implementation staff told me that a patron had to either be associated with an LDAP authentication or not. In other words, if a patron type is associated with LDAP authentication then that patron type can no longer log in with the patron barcode/id number. Are your patron types that are associated with LDAP authentication able to use the right hand side of the screen to login as well?

Hi Gail,

We don't use the Innovative ILL product, but belong to an INN REACH
consortium for which this issue sometimes comes up. We have a dual
authentication screen, which you can see at:

https://libraries.colorado.edu/patroninfo~S3

We set this up so that some non-campus users who don't have "identikeys"
could still place orders but it has the added benefit of allowing us to
place orders for patrons using the right side of the screen as we do have
access to last name and ID number (this particular screen also requests a
PIN, but the INN REACH authorization page does not).

This could be one possible solution for you, I suppose.

Subject: [IUG] LDAP: unanticipated consequences

We recently installed LDAP on our system so that patrons use their
campus network username and password instead of their name and campus ID
number for authenticattion for e-reserves, ILL requests, etc.

The problem: Student assistants can no longer put in ILL requests or
book purchase requests for the faculty members they work for. Faculty,
reasonably enough, do not want to give out their passwords to their
campus accounts. Students do not want to have faculty ILL books checked
out on their accounts. We want to know which faculty member requested a
book so that we can notify them when they are cataloged.

How have other libraries who have LDAP handled this?

Thanks for your help.
